What this Twitter video downloader does
To download a video from X (Twitter), copy the post's link (Share, then Copy link), paste it into TapDownload and tap Download. You get the MP4 with sound in Full HD, or any other size X keeps, up to 4K. GIFs save as MP4 and photos as JPG at their original size.
TapDownload is a free website that saves public Snapchat, TikTok and X videos and photos from their link. It is not affiliated with Snap Inc., TikTok or X Corp.
X still answers to twitter.com links, so this works as a Twitter video downloader and an X video downloader at once. TapDownload reads the public data X gives to any website that embeds a post, the same data that shows a post inside a news article, and hands you the files X itself serves.
Download a Twitter video in three steps
- Copy the link. On X, open the post, tap Share, then Copy link. On a computer, copy the address from the browser bar.
- Paste it into the box above. TapDownload opens it as soon as you paste.
- Tap Download MP4. You get Full HD. For 4K or a smaller file, open the save options first.
Which sizes you get
X keeps each video in several sizes, depending on what the person uploaded. TapDownload lists every one with its real file size.
| Version | Size | Good to know |
|---|---|---|
| 4K | 3840 x 2160 | Only when the uploader posted 4K; big files, often 30 MB or more |
| Full HD (the default) | 1920 x 1080 | Sharp on any screen, a sensible size for a phone |
| HD | 1280 x 720 | About half the size of Full HD |
| Smaller file | 640 x 360 and less | For slow connections or quick sharing |
Vertical videos come in the same steps, turned on their side (for example 1080 x 1920). TapDownload never upscales, so a video posted in 720p stays 720p.
Twitter GIF downloader
The GIFs you see on X are stored as short MP4 videos without sound. TapDownload saves them as MP4, which is smaller and sharper. If you need a real .gif file, open the save options and pick GIF: it's made in your browser from the first 10 seconds.
Photos from X posts
Paste a post with pictures and TapDownload lists each one at its original size as JPG. A post with several photos can be saved together with Download several.
Save the sound only
Pick Audio in the save options to keep just the soundtrack as an .aac file, copied from the video without re-encoding.
When an X video won't save
- The account is protected (private). Only public posts can be opened.
- X hides the post from logged-out visitors, often because it's marked sensitive or age-restricted.
- The post was deleted, or the link points to a profile instead of a post. Copy the link of the post itself.
- It's a live broadcast. TapDownload saves videos posted on X, not live streams.
X (Twitter) questions
How do I download a video from Twitter?
Copy the post's link (Share, then Copy link), paste it into TapDownload and tap Download. Twitter links and x.com links both work.
Can I download X videos in 4K or HD?
Yes, when X keeps them. The download button gives Full HD; the save options list every size X has for that video, up to 4K, with its real file size.
Can I save a Twitter video on iPhone?
Yes, in Safari. The MP4 lands in the Files app under Downloads; tap it, then Share and Save Video to put it in Photos.
Does the person who posted it know I downloaded it?
TapDownload reads the public post without an X account, so no username of yours is involved. If you plan to share the video, credit the person who posted it and ask first.
Why can't I download some posts?
Posts from protected accounts, and posts X hides from logged-out visitors (often marked sensitive), aren't public, so TapDownload can't open them. TapDownload never logs in to X.
