How to Download TikTok Audio as MP3
TapDownload is a free website that saves public Snapchat, TikTok and X videos and photos from their link. It is not affiliated with Snap Inc., TikTok or X Corp.
To convert TikTok to MP3, copy the video's link, paste it into TapDownload, tap the sliders button and pick MP3. Your browser makes a 192 kbps MP3 from the video's sound, and nothing is uploaded. Pick AAC instead for the original sound, copied without re-encoding. Inside TikTok, saving a sound only bookmarks it.
MP3, AAC, or a saved sound: what each one gives you
"Download TikTok audio" can mean a file you keep, or a sound you bookmark inside TikTok. Only the first gives you something you can play outside the app, put in a video editor, or listen to offline. Here's how the options compare:
| Option | What you get | Plays outside TikTok? |
|---|---|---|
| MP3 from the link (TapDownload) | An .mp3 file at 192 kbps, made in your browser | Yes, on anything |
| AAC from the link (TapDownload) | The video's own sound, copied as it is | Yes, on phones and computers |
| Add to Favorites (in TikTok) | A bookmark to the sound page | No |
| Add song (in TikTok) | The song added to Spotify, Apple Music or another music app | In that app, if it has the song |
The rest of this guide shows how to convert a TikTok to MP3 step by step, which format to pick, what exactly ends up in the file, and how the in-app options work when a bookmark is all you need.
How to convert a TikTok to MP3
All you need is the video's link. The same steps work to save audio from TikTok on a phone or a computer, and to convert a TikTok video to MP3 that someone sent you in a chat:
- Copy the video's link. In the TikTok app, tap Share, then Copy link. On a computer, copy the address of the video's page.
- Paste it into TapDownload. Open the TikTok downloader, paste the link and tap Download. Opening the Audio tab above the box first makes MP3 the format for you.
- Pick MP3. Tap the sliders button next to Save, choose MP3, then tap Download MP3.
- Wait a few seconds. The button counts up while your browser turns the sound into an MP3. A one-minute TikTok takes a few seconds on a computer and a little longer on an older phone. Then the file saves like any download.
Nothing is uploaded anywhere for this. TapDownload fetches the video, and the MP3 is made inside your own browser, on your own device. The file is named after the creator, ending in -audio.mp3.
MP3 or AAC: which should you pick?
TikTok stores the sound of its videos as AAC, the same format Apple Music uses. TapDownload offers it two ways:
- AAC is the sound copied straight out of the video, byte for byte. Nothing is re-encoded, so it's exactly what TikTok has, and it's instant. It plays on iPhones, Android phones, Windows, Mac and almost every music app.
- MP3 is a new file encoded from that sound at 192 kbps. That's a generous rate for the sound TikTok stores, so you won't hear a difference. Pick MP3 when a device or app insists on it: older car stereos and MP3 players, some ringtone makers, some video editors and online tools that only accept .mp3 files.
A conversion can't add quality that isn't there. An MP3 from a TikTok is never better than the sound in the video, whatever bitrate a tool promises. If you see "320 kbps" offered for TikTok audio, it's a bigger file with the same sound.
What's in the file: the video's soundtrack
The MP3 or AAC is the sound of that video, exactly as it plays in the app. That has two consequences worth knowing before you pick a video:
- Voices are included. If the creator talks over a song, or a sound effect plays on top of it, it's in the file. To get a song on its own, pick a video where the song plays without anything over it.
- It's as long as the video. A 15-second TikTok gives you 15 seconds of the song, not the whole track. For the full song, the "Add song" button below is the better route.
Photo posts and slideshows are a special case. Their music isn't stored inside a video file, so TapDownload saves the pictures as JPGs but has no sound to convert. Find a video that uses the same sound and convert that one.
If you see "This video has no sound track", the video really is silent: some TikToks are posted with the sound removed.
How to extract audio from a TikTok on a computer
On a computer, the steps are the same, and it's often the quicker place to do it, because the file lands where your editing apps can reach it:
- Open the TikTok on tiktok.com and copy the address from the bar at the top.
- Paste it into TapDownload, tap the sliders button and choose MP3 or AAC.
- The file goes to your Downloads folder. Drag it into your video editor, podcast app or music library.
If you also want the picture, save the MP4 first, then come back and save the audio: each is a separate download. Video editors such as CapCut, Premiere, DaVinci Resolve and iMovie all accept both MP3 and AAC files.
Make a ringtone from a TikTok sound
A short TikTok sound makes a good ringtone, and an MP3 or AAC file is the starting point on both kinds of phone:
- Android: save the MP3, then open Settings, Sound (or Sounds and vibration) and Ringtone. Most phones have a plus button or "My sounds" to add a file from your Downloads.
- iPhone: save the MP3 in Safari (it goes to Files). Open Apple's free GarageBand app, start an Audio Recorder project, open the loop browser and choose Files to import the MP3, trim it to 30 seconds or less, then share the project as a Ringtone.
Ringtones are a personal use: you're not publishing the sound, just hearing it when your phone rings.
When converting TikTok to MP3 doesn't work
- "This video has no sound track": the TikTok was posted without sound. There's nothing to convert.
- It's a photo post: slideshows don't store their music in a file TapDownload can open. Use a video with the same sound.
- "This browser couldn't read the video's sound": a few older browsers can't decode the sound to make an MP3. Pick AAC instead, which needs no decoding, or update the browser.
- It takes a while: MP3s are made on your device, so a long video on an older phone can take half a minute. Keep the page open until the file saves. AAC is instant.
- The video is private or deleted: it isn't on the public web, so no website can open it.
How to save a sound on TikTok
If you only want to find a sound again later, or use it in your own TikTok, you don't need a file at all:
- On a video, tap the sound name at the bottom, or the spinning record at the bottom right. This opens the sound's page, with every video that uses it.
- Tap Add to Favorites. The sound is saved in your Favorites.
- To find it again, open your Profile, tap the tab with the bookmark icon, then Sounds.
From the same sound page, Use this sound opens the camera with the sound ready to record over. If you want a song in your own TikTok, use this button rather than uploading an MP3 you saved: sounds picked inside TikTok are the ones it can play in your video, while music you add yourself can get your video muted.
How to see saved sounds on TikTok on a PC
On a computer, log in on tiktok.com and open your profile: Favorites is a tab there too. What it shows can lag behind the app, and some sound features are app-only, so if a sound you saved on your phone isn't listed on the website, check the app's Favorites, under Sounds. If you want the sound as a file on your computer rather than a bookmark, convert a video that uses it to MP3, as described above.
Add a TikTok song to Spotify, Apple Music or Amazon Music
For songs, TikTok has a feature that skips files entirely. On many videos that use a recognised song, there's an Add song button next to the track name at the bottom. Tap it and TikTok adds the full song to your music app. The first time, it asks which service to use, such as Spotify, Apple Music or Amazon Music, and it remembers your choice. You can change it later in the app's settings.
This only works for songs that are on those services, and only in the music app you picked. A creator's own voice, a remix made in TikTok or an "original sound" usually isn't a song a music service has. For those, converting the video to MP3 is the only way to keep it.
Where the MP3 goes on iPhone, Android and computers
- iPhone and iPad: Safari saves the MP3 in the Files app, in Downloads. It plays there, and apps that edit or play audio can open it from Files. The Music app doesn't take files directly from an iPhone, so to add it to your music library you'd go through a computer.
- Android: it's in Downloads, and most music players find it there by themselves.
- Windows and Mac: the Downloads folder. Double-click to play, or drag it into your music app or editor.

Using TikTok audio fairly
The songs in TikToks belong to the artists and their labels, and a creator's voice belongs to the creator. Keeping a sound to listen to yourself is personal use. Putting it in something you publish is different: for your own TikToks use the app's Use this sound button, and for anything else, check you have the right to use the music. If you'd like to reuse a creator's own audio, ask them. TapDownload isn't affiliated with TikTok, and it only reads what TikTok shows to anyone who opens the public link.
