What this TikTok to MP3 converter does
To convert a TikTok to MP3, copy the video's link in TikTok (Share, then Copy link), paste it here and tap Download MP3. TapDownload fetches the video and your browser turns its sound into a 192 kbps MP3, so nothing is uploaded. For the untouched original sound, pick AAC in the same box.
TapDownload is a free website that saves public Snapchat, TikTok and X videos and photos from their link. It is not affiliated with Snap Inc., TikTok or X Corp.
Many "TikTok to MP3" sites convert the video on their own server and hand back a file. This converter does the conversion on your phone or computer instead. TapDownload reads the public TikTok page and passes the video straight to your browser without keeping a copy, and the MP3 encoder runs inside the page. Close the tab and nothing is kept anywhere.
So this page is a TikTok MP3 downloader and a TikTok sound downloader in one: paste any public video and keep only its audio. It works as a TikTok music downloader too, for songs that play in a video, and it's free on phones and computers with nothing to install.
Convert TikTok to MP3 in three steps
- Copy the link. In TikTok, open the video, tap Share, then Copy link. On a computer, copy the address of the video's page on tiktok.com.
- Paste it into the box above. It opens by itself, and because you're on the MP3 page, MP3 is already picked.
- Tap Download MP3. The button counts up while the MP3 is made, usually a few seconds for a minute of sound, then the file goes to your Downloads. Its name ends in -audio.mp3.
Links copied from the app (vm.tiktok.com/…), full links (tiktok.com/@name/video/…) and whole share messages with the link inside all work.
TikTok MP3 or AAC: which file to pick
TikTok keeps the sound of its videos as AAC. You can have it two ways, and both are free:
| MP3 | AAC | |
|---|---|---|
| What it is | A new file encoded from the sound | The sound copied out of the video as it is |
| Quality | 192 kbps, 44.1 kHz, stereo | Exactly what TikTok stored |
| Speed | A few seconds per minute of sound | Instant |
| Plays on | Everything, including old car stereos and MP3 players | Phones, computers and almost every music app |
| Pick it for | Apps and devices that only take .mp3 | The best copy, with no re-encoding |
192 kbps is more than the sound TikTok stores, so you won't hear a difference. No converter can make a TikTok sound better than the video it came from: a "320 kbps" TikTok MP3 is a bigger file with the same sound.
TikTok audio downloader: what's in the MP3
The MP3 is the video's soundtrack, exactly as it plays in the app. If the creator talks over a song, the talking is in the file. If the video is 15 seconds long, the MP3 is 15 seconds long. For a song on its own, pick a video where it plays without anything on top. For the whole song, TikTok's own Add song button sends it to Spotify, Apple Music or Amazon Music when the song is on those services.
Photo posts (slideshows) don't keep their music in a file this converter can open. Tap the sound on the slideshow to find a video that uses the same sound, then convert that video. More on this in how to download TikTok audio as MP3.
TikTok MP3 on iPhone, Android and computers
- iPhone and iPad: Safari saves the MP3 in the Files app, in Downloads. It plays there, and audio apps can open it from Files. To make a ringtone, import it into GarageBand.
- Android: the MP3 lands in Downloads, where music players and ringtone settings find it.
- Windows, Mac, Chromebook: the Downloads folder. Drag it into your editor or music app.
How this TikTok to MP3 converter works
It helps to know what happens between pasting a link and getting a file, because it explains why the MP3 is private, why it takes a few seconds, and why the quality is what it is:
- TapDownload reads the public TikTok page. It's the same page anyone sees when they open the link without logging in. From it, TapDownload finds the video file TikTok plays.
- The video comes to your browser. TapDownload passes TikTok's file straight through to you. It doesn't keep a copy, and it never sees what you do with it next.
- Your browser decodes the sound. The audio track inside the MP4 is turned back into plain sound at 44.1 kHz, the rate every MP3 player expects.
- An MP3 encoder runs inside the page. TapDownload uses LAME, the long-standing open-source MP3 encoder behind a lot of music software, compiled to run in a browser. It encodes the sound at 192 kbps, in slices, so the page stays responsive and the button can show its progress.
- The file is saved like any download. It's named after the creator and ends in -audio.mp3.
Because steps 3 to 5 happen on your device, a fast laptop makes the MP3 in a second or two, and an older phone takes a little longer for a long video. AAC skips steps 3 and 4 entirely, which is why it's instant.
What people use a TikTok MP3 for
- Listening offline. Put the MP3 in your music app or a playlist and play it on a flight, in the car or anywhere TikTok won't load. MP3 plays on every car stereo and old MP3 player, which is the main reason to pick it over AAC.
- A ringtone or alarm. On Android, add the MP3 in Settings, Sound, Ringtone (most phones have a plus button or "My sounds"). On iPhone, import it into Apple's free GarageBand app from the Files app, trim it to 30 seconds or less, and share it as a Ringtone.
- Editing your own videos. CapCut, InShot, Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve and iMovie all take MP3 files. If you're making a TikTok, though, use TikTok's own Use this sound button instead of uploading the MP3: TikTok can mute videos with music you add yourself.
- Keeping a voice clip. A speech, a joke or a recipe someone explains is often easier to keep as audio than as a video. A one-minute MP3 at 192 kbps is about 1.4 MB.
- Transcribing. Transcription apps and services accept MP3 almost everywhere, so converting a talking-head TikTok to MP3 first is the simplest way to get its words as text.
How to find the song in a TikTok
Often what you really want is the name of the song, so you can get the full track. TikTok tells you in most cases:
- Tap the sound name at the bottom of the video, or the spinning record at the bottom right.
- The sound's page opens. For licensed music it shows the song title and the artist, and every other video that uses it.
- Tap Add song, where it's offered, to save the full track to Spotify, Apple Music or Amazon Music.
If the sound is called "original sound", the creator recorded it themselves or used a clip TikTok doesn't recognise. An app like Shazam can often still identify the music if you play the TikTok or the MP3 near it.
Convert TikTok to MP3 on a computer
On a Windows PC, a Mac or a Chromebook, open the TikTok on tiktok.com, copy the address from the bar at the top, and paste it into the box on this page. The MP3 lands in your Downloads folder. A computer is also the easiest place to add the MP3 to an iPhone's Music app: drag it into Apple Music on a Mac (or iTunes on Windows) and sync your phone, because the Music app on an iPhone can't take files directly.
TikTok MP3 converter claims, checked
Search for a TikTok to MP3 converter and you'll see the same promises on many sites. Here's what holds up:
| Claim | What's actually true |
|---|---|
| "320 kbps MP3" | Possible, but the sound can't get better than TikTok's own AAC. A higher bitrate only makes the file bigger. |
| "Lossless" or "HD audio" | An MP3 is never lossless. The only untouched copy is the AAC, copied out of the video as it is. |
| "Download private TikTok audio" | Private videos aren't on the public web. No website can open them. |
| "Install our app" or extension | Not needed. A browser can make the MP3 on its own. |
| "No watermark audio" | The watermark is on the picture, plus a short logo outro that TikTok adds to app downloads. The playback copy this page converts has neither. |
When a TikTok won't convert
- "This video has no sound track": the TikTok was posted silent. There's nothing to convert.
- "This browser couldn't read the video's sound": a few older browsers can't decode it. Pick AAC, which needs no decoding.
- The account is private, or the video was deleted. TapDownload only opens what TikTok shows to someone who isn't logged in.
- It's a LIVE. Lives have no file to save.
Songs belong to their artists, and a creator's voice belongs to the creator. Keeping a sound to listen to yourself is personal use. To use a sound in your own TikTok, use TikTok's Use this sound button rather than uploading the MP3. If you want to reuse a creator's audio anywhere else, ask them first.
TikTok to MP3 questions
Is this TikTok to MP3 converter free?
Yes. No account, no app, no extension and no ads. The MP3 is made in your own browser.
What quality is the TikTok MP3?
192 kbps, 44.1 kHz, stereo: more than the sound TikTok stores, so nothing you can hear is lost. For the original sound with no re-encoding, pick AAC.
Is the TikTok uploaded anywhere to convert it?
No. You only paste a link. TapDownload passes the public video to your browser without storing it, and the MP3 is encoded inside the page on your device.
Can I convert a TikTok to MP3 on iPhone?
Yes, in Safari. The MP3 goes to the Files app, in Downloads, where you can play it or open it in other apps.
Why is there talking in my MP3?
Because the MP3 is the video's whole soundtrack. Pick a video where the song plays without anyone talking, or use TikTok's Add song button for the full track in your music app.
Can I convert several TikToks to MP3 at once?
One link at a time. After each MP3 saves, paste the next link into the box; each conversion takes only a few seconds.
Can I get an MP3 from a TikTok photo slideshow?
Not from the slideshow itself, because its music isn't stored in a video file. Tap the sound on the slideshow, pick a video that uses the same sound, and convert that one.
Is it legal to convert TikTok to MP3?
Keeping a sound for your own listening is personal use. Publishing it is different: the song belongs to its artist and label, and a creator's voice belongs to the creator. Ask before you reuse someone's audio.
