What this TikTok to MP4 converter does

To convert a TikTok to MP4, copy the video's link in TikTok (Share, then Copy link), paste it here and tap Download MP4. You get an MP4 with sound and no watermark: TikTok's own playback file, not a re-encoded copy. Tap the sliders button for a sharper HEVC version, up to 1080 × 1920, when TikTok keeps one.

TapDownload is a free website that saves public Snapchat, TikTok and X videos and photos from their link. It is not affiliated with Snap Inc., TikTok or X Corp.

"Converting" a TikTok to MP4 is a bit of a misnomer: TikTok already stores its videos as MP4 files. What a converter really does is find the right file behind the link and save it for you. TapDownload saves the copy TikTok plays in its app and on its website, which has no logo or @username on it. Nothing is re-encoded, so the MP4 is exactly as sharp as TikTok's own.

That makes this a TikTok MP4 downloader rather than a converter in the old sense, and it's free: no app, no account, nothing to install.

Convert a TikTok link to MP4 in three steps

  1. Copy the link. In TikTok, open the video, tap Share, then Copy link. On a computer, copy the address of the video's page.
  2. Paste it into the box above. It opens as soon as you paste.
  3. Tap Download MP4. The file goes to your Downloads. Its name starts with tapdownload and the creator's username.

Every kind of TikTok link works: the short vm.tiktok.com/… link the app copies, the full tiktok.com/@name/video/… address, and a whole share message with the link inside it.

Which TikTok MP4 you get

TikTok keeps more than one MP4 for most videos. TapDownload lists the real ones, each with its size, and picks the one that plays everywhere unless you choose another:

MP4 versionUsual sizeBest for
H.264 (the default)576 × 1024 or 720 × 1280Every phone, computer, TV and editing app
Sharper (HEVC / H.265)Up to 1080 × 1920Watching on recent phones, Macs and newer PCs
Smaller file576 × 1024Sending over a slow connection

Not every video has every version: TikTok decides which copies to keep, and a video uploaded in low quality stays low quality. TapDownload never upscales, so it can't hand you a fake "4K" file.

So, TikTok to MP4 in 1080p or HD? Yes, whenever TikTok keeps that copy: pick Sharper (HEVC) in the save options and the size is shown before you save. TikTok to MP4 in 4K? Only if TikTok kept a 4K copy, and TapDownload lists only the copies that exist. A site that promises 4K for every TikTok is upscaling it: the file gets bigger, not sharper.

H.264 or HEVC: which TikTok MP4 should you pick?

Both are MP4 files. The difference is the video codec inside, the method used to squeeze the picture into a small file:

  • H.264 is the codec almost every device has played for over a decade. Phones, laptops, smart TVs, game consoles, WhatsApp, every video editor and every website upload form accept it. That's why it's the default here.
  • HEVC (also called H.265) is newer. At the same file size it keeps more detail, so TikTok uses it for its sharpest copies. iPhones, iPads and Macs play it natively, as do most recent Android phones. Windows needs Microsoft's HEVC Video Extensions from the Microsoft Store for its built-in apps, while VLC plays it on any computer without extras.

A simple rule: keep the video on your own phone or Mac, pick HEVC for the best picture. Send it to someone, post it elsewhere or edit it on Windows, pick H.264. If you're not sure, H.264 always works.

TikTok to MP4 without the watermark

The TikTok watermark, the logo and @username that jump around the picture, is added to the copy TikTok's own Download button gives you, depending on the creator's settings. The playback copy has none, and that's the one this converter saves, so every TikTok MP4 download here is without the watermark. Nothing is blurred, cropped or painted over, so you keep the whole frame. Captions and stickers the creator put on the video are part of the video, so they stay. The full explanation, including your own videos and drafts, is in how to download TikTok without a watermark.

Using TikTok MP4s in video editors

If you'll edit the video, in CapCut, Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve, iMovie or Final Cut, keep the default H.264 MP4. Every editor opens it without any add-on. The sharper HEVC copy looks better, but some Windows computers need Microsoft's HEVC extension to play it, and some free editors don't read it at all.

Want just the sound for your edit? Use TikTok to MP3, or pick MP3 or AAC in the save options here.

Where the MP4 goes

  • iPhone and iPad: Safari puts it in the Files app, in Downloads. Open it there, tap Share, then Save Video to add it to Photos. Every step is in how to download TikTok videos on iPhone.
  • Android: straight to Downloads, and your gallery app shows it.
  • Windows, Mac, Chromebook: your Downloads folder.

TikTok to MP4 on a computer

  1. Open the video on tiktok.com. Public videos play without logging in.
  2. Copy the address from the bar at the top. It looks like tiktok.com/@name/video/ followed by a long number.
  3. Paste it into the box on this page and tap Download MP4.

The MP4 goes to your Downloads folder. Double-click it to play: Windows opens it in Media Player or Photos, a Mac in QuickTime. If an HEVC copy won't play on Windows, open it in VLC, or save the H.264 copy instead.

Can I save several TikToks as MP4?

One link at a time. Each TikTok has its own link, so paste one, save the MP4, then paste the next. Each takes a few seconds. If you paste a lot of links very quickly, TapDownload asks you to wait a minute before the next one; that limit keeps the service free and fast for everyone. TapDownload can't open TikTok profile pages, so there's no "save the whole account" button.

Trim, shrink or edit the MP4 afterwards

  • Trim it: on iPhone, open the video in Photos, tap Edit and drag the ends of the timeline. On Android, Google Photos has the same trim tool under Edit. On a computer, QuickTime (Mac) and the Photos app (Windows) both trim.
  • Make it smaller: pick the "Smaller file" version in the save options when TikTok has one. For a bigger cut in size, the free, open-source HandBrake app re-encodes a video at a lower bitrate on Windows, Mac or Linux.
  • Edit it: CapCut, InShot, iMovie, Premiere Pro and DaVinci Resolve all open the H.264 MP4 directly. Credit the creator if you publish anything made from their video.
  • Just the sound: use TikTok to MP3, or pick MP3 or AAC in the save options here.

Why a saved TikTok can look softer than in the app

A TikTok you save is the same file the app plays, but it can still look a little softer, for three reasons. You're seeing it bigger: a 576 × 1024 video fills a phone screen nicely and looks soft stretched across a laptop. The app may have been playing a sharper copy than the default saved here, which is the H.264 one that plays everywhere. And the creator's upload limits everything: if they posted a blurry video, every copy is blurry. Pick Sharper (HEVC) in the save options when it's offered, and watch on a phone-sized window for the closest match.

TikTok to MP4 converter claims, checked

ClaimWhat's actually true
"4K TikTok downloader"Only real if TikTok kept a 4K copy. Otherwise it's an upscaled file: bigger, not sharper.
"Watermark remover"Removing a watermark means blurring or cropping. Saving the playback copy needs no removal at all.
"Download private TikToks"Private videos aren't on the public web, so no website can open them.
"Converts to MP4"TikTok videos are MP4 already. A good tool saves the file without re-encoding it.
"Needs our app or extension"A browser is enough, on any phone or computer.

When a TikTok won't convert to MP4

  • The account is private, or the video was deleted. Only what TikTok shows to logged-out visitors can be saved.
  • It's a photo post. Slideshows save as JPG pictures, not MP4. See how to download TikTok photos.
  • It's a LIVE. Lives have no file to save.
  • TikTok limits it on the web, often by age.

A TikTok belongs to its creator. Saving it to watch later is fine; before you repost it, ask them, and credit them when you do.

TikTok to MP4 questions

Is this TikTok to MP4 converter free?

Yes. No account, no app, no extension and no ads. Paste a link and save the MP4.

Does the MP4 have the TikTok watermark?

No. TapDownload saves TikTok's own playback copy, which never had the logo or the @username on it.

What resolution is the TikTok MP4?

The default H.264 copy is usually 576 × 1024 or 720 × 1280. When TikTok keeps a sharper HEVC copy, up to 1080 × 1920, it's listed in the save options with its size.

Can I convert a TikTok to MP4 on iPhone?

Yes, in Safari. The MP4 goes to the Files app; open it and tap Share, then Save Video, to put it in Photos.

Is the video re-encoded?

No. The MP4 is the file TikTok itself serves, saved as it is. That's why it's exactly as sharp as the video in the app.

Why won't the HEVC copy play on my Windows PC?

Windows needs Microsoft's HEVC Video Extensions from the Microsoft Store to play HEVC in its own apps. VLC plays it without them. Or save the default H.264 copy, which plays everywhere.

Can I convert a TikTok link to MP4 on Android?

Yes, in Chrome or any browser. Paste the link, tap Download MP4, and the file goes to your Downloads folder, where your gallery app shows it.

Does the MP4 include the sound?

Yes. The MP4 has the video's full soundtrack, exactly as it plays in the app. If you only want the sound, use TikTok to MP3 instead.
